Circle of Security
Raising children is an important job, and a key part of our role as parents and caregivers is anticipating and interpreting children’s needs. But deciphering children’s emotions can be overwhelming at times, and while we all have the best intentions, oftentimes our own experience of being parented gets in the way and informs how we parent our kids. The Circle of Security Parenting™ program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened by ‘tuning in’ to the underlying needs of the child.
Who is it for?
The Circle of Security is for parents of children 4 months to 5 years-old and can support:
New Parents: To support building a secure attachment with your baby.
Parents of Toddlers and Young Children: To help navigate emotional outbursts, independence-seeking, and connection.
Foster and Adoptive Parents: To support bonding and understanding the unique needs of children who may have experienced trauma or disrupted attachment.
Parents Experiencing Challenges: Those struggling with parenting stress, unresolved attachment issues, or challenges understanding their child’s behaviour.
Children with Insecure Attachment Patterns: To promote a secure attachment by addressing relational patterns of anxiety, avoidance, or ambivalence.
Children Experiencing Behavioural or Emotional Struggles: To help caregivers interpret the behaviour as a form of communication about unmet emotional needs.
How do we help?
Children learn emotional intelligence from an adult who can ‘sit with’ them while they are experiencing their emotions. Our trained facilitator, Rebekah Izzard will help you to understand the hidden needs underlying your child’s behaviors and emotions using attachment-based research and practice. You will also be guided on how to respond to meet those needs in a consistent and supportive way to continue to strengthen the bond you have with your child.
What you’ll learn:
Understand your child’s emotional world by learning to read their emotional needs
Support your child’s ability to successfully manage emotions
Enhance the development of your child's self esteem
Build skills in repairing with your child when you make a mistake and miss their cues
When and how to put boundaries in whilst maintaining a secure bond with your child
What to expect?
Through weekly workshops online that incorporate education, information, group discussions, self-reflection, and goal setting. In each session you will grow in understanding and applying skills in detecting the needs of your child through what you see in their behavior and have skills to help you respond to them. We will talk about the hard moments and behaviors, but equally talk about building delight and fun in your relationship as well. It will be a private and non-judgmental space.
Program delivery:
The 60-minute program runs online over eight sessions and can be delivered to one or both parents. At a minimum, four sessions will need to be attended to achieve maximal efficacy. Sessions are $195 and attract a rebate of $96.65 with a mental health treatment plan from your GP.
